Our litters are planned methodically and raised with care.
There is SO much that goes into planning a breeding and raising a litter of puppies that most people looking to find a well-bred puppy don't consider. Even after the extensive health testing's, we evaluate the animal's structure according to the AKC Italian Greyhound Standard and do extensive pedigree research to assure that we are making a great match in temperament, health and structure. It almost sounds so easy typing this! It is never set in stone, and sometimes matches don't click, however when they do it makes it all worthwhile!
We NEVER let puppies go at 8 weeks. Puppies generally leave here between 10 to 12 weeks for two very important reasons:
* 8 weeks is still a crucial period where they must remain with mom and siblings to develop better social skills
Most breeders say at 8 weeks a puppy is going through their second fear stage of discovery.
*Number 2 is structural and character evaluation. Although we can generally start to tell at 6 weeks, certain structural parts of a puppy don't become evaluable until they are much older (i.e Movement, croups)

We remove front dew claws at 3 days old and begin neurological stimulation the following day until they are 16 days old. Scent stimulation is also introduced. Once our puppies begin to stand, we begin practicing table manners and stacking.
<--- Here's our lil guy again the first time I put him on a grooming table at 6 weeks. During their time here, our puppies are introduced to many experiences that would prepare them for the outside world. They are introduced to long car rides, crate training, potty training, leash training, and even large dogs.
Our puppies are raised with our German Shepherds in our home from the start, so don't be surprised if they get excited when they see one! We have a lifetime commitment to our dogs, and no matter the age or the circumstance, when you have one of our babies you will always have us. ~ Macabre Italian Greyhounds |
